Blogpost 1 : Ways for human to use their cognitive abilities and skills well

In our everyday life, how we act or how we understand our surroundings are cognition which is a set of in-born mental abilities of human. Through different cognitive processes (problem-solving, reasoning, acquiring knowledge, etc), people are able to use the existing knowledge to generate new knowledge.

In performing different cognitive processes, our brains are having many different cognitive abilities and each having their own uniqueness with different skills involved. For example:

(1)  Attention [People can concentrate on a particular thought, object or action as well as able to manage demands in a competitive environment]

(2) Memory [People can memorise things in a short-term or long-term period which stores in their brain for other uses]

(3) Language [People having skills that help to translate sounds that are heard into verbal outputs which can also help express their opinions]

By applying different skills to perform the abilities, people should well use each of them to have a better performance in different activities. These abilities can be boosted up by joining different physical activities that can improve ones memory as certain hormones are produced during the physical activities. Also, reducing chronic stress can decrease damage towards the brain and will  not easily give rise to mental problems.

So, it is important to improve our daily habits and do more exercises to optimise cognitive function.

It’s great that Betty mentioned that human use different ability to communicate with people like the attention, memory and language. It helps people perform better in different activities. Betty also mentioned that joining different physical activities can help boost these abilities. This is true because the hormones controls out body to a great extend. Apart from physical health, the mental health is also very important. Therefore, apart from joining physical activities, we should also join different activities to maintain our mental health. A positive mind is also good for our body.

The point that we should do more exercises to optimize our cognitive function attracts me a lot. It is my first time to realize that our cognitive function are developing imperceptibly when we are just dealing with daily life things. By separating the cognition process into several parts, it is possible for us to train this function consciously and improve a certain portion specifically. However, a healthy life style is indispensable for developing cognition. For example, staying up late for a long term may cause a decline in cognitive function (e.g. memory loss) and does harm to our physical health. This process might be slow and hard to recognize, but the negative factors will accumulate and eventually lead to more problems. Therefore, a healthy life style is the foundation of improving cognitive ability.

It is really a warm remind that maintain our daily life and do more exercise can optimize our cognitive function. Actually, our cognitive function is very important to us since we keep using this function and we are unable to stop this function by ourselves. So we should try our best to keep this function work in the best quality to provide good performance. That’s why the doctors always recommend people the do exercise after they wake up. This is obviously clear our mind.

I totally agree with you. Cognition has to do with how a person understands the world and acts in it. It is the set of mental abilities or processes that are part of nearly every human action while we are awake.
Cognitive abilities are brain-based skills we need to carry out any task from the simplest to the most complex. They have more to do with the mechanisms of how we learn, remember, problem-solve, and pay attention, rather than with any actual knowledge. For instance, answering the telephone involves perception (hearing the ring tone), decision taking (answering or not), motor skill (lifting the receiver), language skills (talking and understanding language), social skills (interpreting tone of voice and interacting properly with another human being).
